"How Can I use my Membership as my Family Changes?"
Our DVC membership has given us a whole new perspective on how to vacation. We first became interested in DVC because we needed a little more space for our family of five. With three daughters, the opportunity to have privacy and extra bathroom space on vacation is what made vacations magical.
As the girls got older, with one grown and married, we have way less time to get the whole family together. As one daughter spent her vacation last year honeymooning in Hawaii, another spent school break at summer camp. Our family has changed and grown to the point where we have to combine vacations with family events and holidays. It can be hard to choose between family holiday traditions and a Walt Disney World vacation, but DVC lets us combine them both. This past Christmas, we filled our Copper Creek cabin with the sights and smells of Christmas at home. While the kids went and visited theme parks and swimming pools, the salty sweet smell of the Christmas ham wafted through the cabin. By the time the kids all came “home”, all their culinary Christmas favorites were on the table, and my husband and I decorated a Christmas tree for Santa to leave presents under. It was like the magical days of old to have all the kids home, gathered around the dinner table, sharing stories and reliving memories.
This year, we will add our first grandbaby to the mix. There will be 12 of us traveling to Walt Disney World to share in the baby’s first trip to Disney. After long theme park days or time spent golfing or swimming, there are four grandparents and lots of aunts and uncles looking forward to coming “home” for a chance to read a bedtime story or sing a lullaby. And as we watch our new grandbaby fall asleep, with the brilliance of the Magic Kingdom fireworks entertaining the gang from the balcony, I know we will be grateful all over again that DVC helps make the precious time with our family stay magical.
