Hey there, Brittany!
Thanks for visiting us at planDisney. It looks like you'll be heading to Walt Disney World Resort today, and if so, I'm happy to help!
Earlier this year, the
My Disney Experience app was updated with a convenient MyDisney Wallet feature. This new section under the "Account" heading allows guests to save up to 6 payment methods, including credit or Debit Cards, Disney Rewards Redemption Cards, and Disney Gift Cards. You can now quickly add your preferred cards and set one as your default payment method, which makes shopping and snacking around the parks easier than ever!
However, while you can use saved Gift Cards for
Mobile Food and Beverage Orders,
Merchandise Mobile Checkout, and in-person payments, I spoke with a Cast Member who confirmed that you
cannot set a Disney Gift Card as your default payment method in the app. A credit card must be on file as the default, but you can easily select another saved card by going through the checkout process and selecting "Use a Different Payment Method" before completing the transaction. It's my understanding that this will not work for Lightning Lane Purchases, but you can still manually input the information, as my pal
Elaine explains here.
Unfortunately, all my saved Disney Gift Cards are now at a zero balance (the sign of a well-enjoyed vacation), so there are no available funds to transfer between them. I did come across mentions of this being possible within the app, but I'm not seeing the ability on my end. But have no fear! You can still easily transfer balances between cards online at
www.disneygiftcard.com. My fellow panelist
Alyssa walks through the process here if you'd like some guidance. Keep in mind that the maximum balance of a gift card cannot exceed $1000.
Brittany, I hope this helps. If you have any additional questions, please come back and let us know.
Magic and memories,
Amy
