When availability is limited, modifications (like switching your starting park from
Disney California Adventure Park to
Disneyland Park) can become unavailable, even if you already have a valid ticket. Based on what you’re seeing, it does sound like Disneyland is currently fully booked for your selected date with a
California Resident Park Hopper ticket, which is why the system isn’t allowing that change.
That said, your Park Hopper ticket is going to be your best friend here. Even if your reservation starts at Disney California Adventure, you’ll still be able to enter Disneyland beginning at 11:00 a.m. From that point on, you can move freely between both parks for the rest of the day. If your group is planning to start their day in Disneyland, you could meet up with them right at that 11:00 a.m. crossover window. (I recommend heading toward the entrance about 15 to 30 minutes early so you’re ready to go right at that transition time).
I’d also encourage you to keep checking the
reservation system leading up to your visit. Guests adjust their plans all the time, and availability can pop up unexpectedly. If you do see Disneyland open up, you can jump in and modify your reservation right away.
Since you’ll be starting your morning in Disney California Adventure, you’ve got a great opportunity to enjoy a few highlights before hopping over. If you’re looking for a smooth start, you might consider heading straight to
Radiator Springs Racers or
WEB SLINGERS early in the day, when wait times are often more manageable. It’s a great way to build some early momentum before joining your group.
