I purchased a ticket and reserved my reservation for this coming Monday September 21, but did not add a magic key pass. I now want to turn my purchase ticket to a magic key pass, how can I do that?

Greetings, Caitlin, and welcome to planDisney! I'm excited that you're interested in getting a Magic Key pass. It's a great feeling to visit the Disneyland Resort knowing you'll be back soon.

There are a couple ways to upgrade a valid theme park ticket to a Magic Key pass, given that the passes are on sale. Reservation availability is a big factor in deciding when to upgrade a ticket, since existing park reservations associated with your ticket don't transfer to the Magic Key pass.

One popular approach is to use your ticket as planned and upgrade near the end of the day, when you know you won't need to re-enter the park. Just make sure you do it before midnight on the day of your visit, and don't wait until the last minute just in case you run into technical issues. You should see the "upgrade" option below your ticket in the Disneyland mobile app.

You can also upgrade your unused ticket at the ticket booth, but that's not the best option on a day when Magic Key reservations are limited. I just checked the calendar, and at the time of writing this, there aren't Magic Key reservations currently available for September 21. That means that you could run into trouble getting into the park after upgrading, unless reservations open up.

I've had a Magic Key for years, and love it. My favorite part is that visits feel more relaxed, knowing that I can do something next time if I don't get to it. And when something new is announced, I can start planning my next trip. In case you haven't heard, there are some beloved entertainment offerings returning soon, including the “Magic Happens” parade, the “Remember… Dreams Come True” nighttime spectacular, and an updated take on the original “World of Color” show! I'm truly excited for each of these. And, of course, getting a Magic Key now means you'll have a chance to experience Halloween Time, the holidays, the Disney California Food & Wine Festival, and much more.

Caitlin, have a wonderful time with what will be your first of many visits to the Disneyland Resort as a Magic Key holder. If you need assistance while in the park, stop by a Guest Relations location. You can also reach out to us here at planDisney anytime – we're always happy to help!
