Hi there, Cammie, and thanks for bringing your question to planDisney! I love the designs on some of my older MagicBands and still use them even though they don’t have the latest technology.
It sounds like you also have a MagicBand 2 but unfortunately, it’s built differently than the newer
MagicBand+, so the pucks aren’t interchangeable. In my experience, I haven’t seen pucks sold without the wristband so buying a complete MagicBand is likely your only option.
Although your MagicBand 2 is older, it should still work for scanning into the parks and
Lightning Lane and
Virtual Queue entrances, entering your hotel room, and linking
PhotoPass pictures. As the battery dies, you may find it’s no longer automatically linking your
attraction photos. If you love the design on your MagicBand 2, you can purchase a new MagicBand 2 and swap the pucks (use a small screwdriver to open them from the back).
The new MagicBand+ does sprinkle a bit of extra pixie dust throughout your day! As you walk in the parks, the MagicBand+ will light up and vibrate as you approach and wave at the
Disney Fab 50 character statues. It also interacts with select nighttime spectaculars, making you feel like you’re right in the middle of the show! And my favorite MagicBand+ feature is playing the
Batuu Bounty Hunters game in
Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. You can channel your inner Boba Fett and complete bounty jobs while you explore Black Spire Outpost!
And if you forget to charge your MagicBand+ (which I often do!), Hakuna Matata! It’ll still do everything that your MagicBand 2 does, just without the interactive features. If I want to be sure my MagicBand+ will make it to the nighttime spectaculars, I’ll usually bring a portable battery to charge the band during the day.
If you’re staying at a
Disney Resort hotel, you can even save money by pre-purchasing MagicBand+ ahead of your stay. What I love about ordering these MagicBands is that they usually come engraved with your name on the back. This makes them feel extra special and you’ll never mix them up with your friends' or family’s bands!
I hope you have a pixie-dusted visit to Disney World. And don’t hesitate to come back to planDisney if you have any other questions!
