Lightning Lane Multi Pass is a fantastic way to shorten wait times for many popular attractions at the Walt Disney World Resort theme parks. My family purchases this product when we anticipate large crowds or for special occasions. Every guest will find their own rhythm, but I'm happy to share some tips for how we use it.
Guests staying at Disney Resort Hotels can buy Lightning Lane passes
7 days before arrival for the duration of their stay (up to 10 days). This is an advantage over guests staying off property since their window to purchase opens at the 3-day mark. Some attractions may sell out before the three-day window opens, and available return times will have more options the sooner you book.
All that to say, you might not have as many time slots to choose from if you book 3 days in advance, so my first tip is to be flexible! It still makes sense to book your first return time as early in the day as you can, mainly because you can select your next one as soon as you scan in for the first.
You'll purchase and select your first three attractions in your
mobile app by tapping the Lightning Lane Passes tile. You'll choose the date, theme park, and guests first. Then, you'll be able to select return times for up to three attractions. The system will typically default to the earliest available time slots, but you can
modify times before or after you complete the purchase.
Keep in mind that some theme parks
divide attractions into groups, and you can initially choose only one from the first group. That's where the early booking strategy comes into play; as soon as you scan in for the first ride, you can select your next one from any group!
You'll continue to select new attractions as soon as you scan in for the current one, so you can typically book several additional rides throughout the day. I'm the designated Lightning Lane selector in my family, so I always have my app open and ready to check availability the second everyone has scanned into an attraction. I promise you'll get the hang of it after a few times!
