Can I bring a pool float to use at the resort pool?

Hello, Shawn, and welcome to planDisney! You'll be arriving for your Walt Disney World Resort adventure soon, so let's "dive in" and talk about enjoying some pool time during your visit. Grab some sunscreen!

The Walt Disney World Property Rules state that non-Coast Guard approved flotation devices are prohibited, so as long as your float meets that safety criteria, feel free to bring it along. However, keep in mind that Disney lifeguards will always have the final say in what they allow in the pools. Guest safety is their top priority, so please defer to their requests. I suspect they factor in many variable such as how busy a pool is, weather, and more.

My pal Susan also mentioned in this recent answer that flotation devices that prohibit a lifeguard's view of guests may also be prohibited. Pool noodles are not allowed at the water parks, so most resort pools probably don't allow those either.

The good news is that Disney Resort Hotel pools have complimentary safety vests for all ages. You'll find these poolside, and they're available on a first-come basis. I saw them displayed in all their colorful glory at Disney's Art of Animation Resort recently, and it took me back to when my little guy was just a minnow!

My final tip is that most merchandise shops at the resorts offer supplies for a splashtastic day at the pool. I've seen sunscreen, snacks, and even swim diapers. And while most resorts offer complimentary towels to use while you sunbathe, I often buy resort-specific beach towels during my stay. Not only do they make for fun photos, but they're also fabulous souvenirs!

Shawn, I hope your upcoming visit is full of pixie dust and cannonballs! Please stop by planDisney again.

    Magic awaits,
    Elaine
