Many years ago we did a safari tour in the back of a truck and got to feed the giraffes …. Does this still exist? Would love to do it again!

    Hi Jennifer!

    Welcome to planDisney!

While there are currently no experiences available in which you can feed the giraffes at Disney World, there are some incredible tours that can get you up close to them!

First up, Wild Africa Trek. This tour will start with a walking portion, complete with navigating across rope bridges. Then you’ll hop in a safari vehicle to head out to the savanna. You’ll likely spend some time in the area where the giraffes like to roam before heading to the boma (the covered porch area in the savanna you can see when riding Kilimanjaro Safaris) for a light meal.

The next tour to consider is Savor the Savanna. I was actually lucky enough to go on this one during a recent visit! The time spent during this tour is split between riding on a safari vehicle and enjoying some light bites and drinks at the boma.

During our tour, we spent quite a bit of time parked in the savanna while the giraffes walked right next to us. And once we were at the boma, we had the perfect view of the giraffes running around after a short rain shower let up. I think that was my first time seeing giraffes run around like that, and it was so cool to see. They were fast but somehow looked like they were in slow motion at the same time!

Another place where you’ll find giraffes is at Animal Kingdom Lodge. That resort is also home to some delicious restaurants, so it could be worth snagging a reservation at Sanaa (my personal favorite!), Jiko, or Boma, then taking in some of the savanna views around the resort.

If you’re interested in learning about other animals, I recommend checking out the shorter tours offered at Animal Kingdom. Caring for Giants gives you an up close look at the elephants, and Up Close with Rhinos takes you behind the scenes to see how these animals are cared for.

I hope that helps! Let us know if you have any other questions!
