I have the wild Africa trek reserved at AK & I see it says to wear shoes with a back strap. Other places just say to wear closed toes shoes. Will I be ok in my regular (Brooks) tennis shoes? I don't want to have to buy shoes nor miss out.

    Hey Jenny!

Thanks for bringing your question to planDisney! You are in for a real treat on the Wild Africa Trek! My husband and I just participated in this Enchanting Extra last year and really enjoyed the experience.

About a week before the trek I received an email from the tour guides with a reminder of the requirements for participating in the tour. The email specifically stated that closed-toe shoes with a back strap, sneakers, or hiking boots are required for the trek. Opened-toe shoes of any kind are not permitted. Your tennis shoes should meet these requirements just fine. Another recommendation listed was long shorts or pants with a comfortable shirt. For a portion of the trek you are wearing a harness, so skirts and dresses are not allowed.

If your trek begins prior to park opening, you should enter Animal Kingdom using the Early Theme Park Entry at the main entrance. It is requested that you arrive to check in at the Curiosity Tours kiosk near the Kilimanjaro Safaris entrance at least 30 minutes before your tour start time. When we checked in, we had some paperwork to sign and several reminders to take a bathroom break before getting into the harness.

Before beginning the trek, we could lock our belongings in lockers. The guides helped properly secure our harnesses and provided straps for phones and sunglasses, as well as water bottles with straps.

It is hard to pick my favorite part of the trek, Jenny. It was a great behind-the-scenes experience at Animal Kingdom. We got close to the animals as we learned about them from the Cast Members who care for them, we had a fantastic meal in a private area on the safari, and at the end, we were given a PhotoPass code to collect all the photos the guides took of our group during the trek.

I hope you have a roaring good time on the Wild Africa Trek, Jenny! If you have any more questions before your vacation, come back and see me at planDisney, I'd love to talk about which Enchanting Extra you should try next!
