We are staying at the Grand Floridian and have an 8:05 AM dining reservation at Magic Kingdom. What’s your advice for the best strategy to get there to make this reservation on time? Early entry is 8:30 AM and park opens at 9:00 AM. Monorail? Boat? Walk?

    Hello Maggie!

Welcome back to planDisney. I think it's pretty grand that you've come to us with another question, but not quite as grand as your upcoming vacation plans! There's really nothing more magical than a stay at Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa. I know that the minute I step into that gorgeous lobby, inhale that iconic scent, and hear the live pianist playing, some beautiful memories are about to be made. My family loves the resort so much that we purchased a Disney Vacation Club contract there a few years back. Now, when we hear "Welcome Home" on each arrival, it really does feel like home.

But enough about me, let's talk about your plans. The Monorail typically begins running 30 minutes before Magic Kingdom Park opens (and up to an hour after closing). With Early Entry scheduled for 8:30 am on the day of your visit, you can expect the Monorail to begin gliding by around 8 am (though I've often seen it start a bit ahead of that predicted time). It appears that the water taxis operate on a similar schedule, but you can always confirm with a Cast Member on-site to be certain.

If you're anything like me, you won't want to risk a late arrival for your dining reservation, because starting the day rushed and worried doesn't feel very magical at all. I recommend speaking with a Cast Member at the Front Desk the night before your reservation to see if they have any further insight into the operating schedule. While you can plan to be on that first Monorail, you'll need to allow time to scan your admission for entry into the park and make your way to the restaurant. There is usually a short grace period to check in at the host stand,  but if it were my family, I'd probably just enjoy a leisurely walk to start the day.

I've made the walk from the Grand to Magic Kingdom on many occasions, which takes about 15 minutes depending on your pace. You'll enjoy some beautiful views of Seven Seas Lagoon as you make your way toward the park, and work up an appetite for whatever feast awaits. My family enjoyed breakfast at The Crystal Palace on a past visit, and we were definitely ready for a walk after enjoying our fill of Mickey churro waffles, eggs, bacon, and more.

I hope this helps make the best plan for your family, Maggie. If we can answer any additional questions, please come right back and let us know.

    Magic and memories,
    Amy
