Hi there, Melissa--welcome back and "Welcome Home" to the
Disney Vacation Club corner of planDisney. I'm glad to have another chance to chat with you about the ins and outs of your Membership. Those
Vacation Points can definitely be tricky!
Vacation Points may only be
banked or borrowed once. After points are moved, they stay in the
Use Year they are moved into. They cannot move a second time--so if you use borrowed points for a reservation and cancel 31 days or more before check-in, those points will remain in the Use Year that you initially borrowed them into.
For instance, using the June Use Year example from
our last Q&A, I would have received my annual allotment of points on June 1, 2024. If I need more points for a dream Disney vacation that falls within my 2024 Use Year (ending on May 31, 2025), I can borrow points from my 2025 Use Year.
If I cancel this reservation at least 31 days before my arrival, the points stay in the 2024 Use Year--i.e., the period in which the booking fell. This means they cannot be banked and will expire if not used by May 31, 2025. To make a reservation to use these points, it's wise to call
Member Services to ensure that they are the ones dedicated to the new booking. You would also be able to bank the
actual 2024 points into your 2025 Use Year, as long as the transaction is completed at least four months before the year's end. Last time we chatted, I referenced the handy
banking deadlines chart that lives on the DVC website--I recommend bookmarking this so you can easily find it!
Melissa, it's been a pleasure to hear from you again --thanks so much for coming back to see us at planDisney. Please feel free to
reach out directly if I can help with any other questions in the future!
Have Courage and Be Kind!
Susan
