We are planning our 20th anniversary trip to Disney World for next year and hope to stay at the Grand Floridian. We have a service dog that is trained to alert us when my wife is experiencing a drop in her blood sugar. Are service dogs allowed?

    Hello Preston!

What an amazing way to celebrate your 20th anniversary! Disney's Grand Floridian is a spectacular choice. With its elegant Victorian charm and prime location on Seven Seas Lagoon, you'll enjoy breathtaking views of Cinderella Castle and the convenience of easy monorail access.

Your service dog is more than welcome throughout the Walt Disney World Resort, including the Grand Floridian! Below, you'll find the official guidelines from the Walt Disney World website regarding service animals to help make your visit as smooth and magical as possible.

    • A service animal is a dog or miniature horse that has been individually trained to do work or perform tasks for an individual with a disability.
    • Service animals must be under the control of the owner at all times and should remain on a leash or in a harness. Cast Members are not able to take control of service animals.
    • Only trained service animals are permitted inside Walt Disney World theme parks, water parks or Disney Springs. Emotional support animals, comfort animals and pets are only permitted at designated, pet-friendly Walt Disney World Resort hotels.
    • Service animals must be housebroken. Service animals are required to behave and not bark, growl, jump up on or lunge at other Guests or Cast Members. Corrective action must be taken if the service animal is not behaving appropriately.
    • Due to the nature of some attractions, service animals may not be permitted to ride. Please ask a Cast Member at these locations about available options, including Rider Switch with a member of your party or a portable kennel.
    • Service animals must remain on the floor and not on dining chairs or tables in food and beverage locations.
    • Service animals are not allowed in water—including water features and fountains—or closer than 4 feet to the water on pool or wet decks.
You'll find designated relief areas throughout the parks and resorts, making it easy to care for your service dog. Plus, some attractions even welcome your furry helper to ride along with you! And don’t worry—Disney's amazing Cast Members are always happy to assist with options whenever your dog isn't able to join you on a ride.

Pro planDisney tip: Ask at the front desk or guest services for a Celebration Pin commemorating your anniversary. They make a great souvenir, and many Guests and Cast Members who see the pin will celebrate with you.

    See ya real soon!
