Hi, My nephew broke his arm on Monday and is visiting Disney World this weekend. We are wondering if he will be able to get his cast signed by characters as it would make him so happy after such a bummer beginning of the week. Thanks!

Oh, boy, Mattie! I'm so sorry to hear your nephew had a most unmagical accident. As a boy mom, my little fella had his share of casts growing up, so I get it! I'm thrilled your guy is powering through and keeping his appointment with Mickey Mouse, so let's talk about how to ensure he enjoys some pixie dust on this visit.

Character meet-and-greets typically have Cast Member friends on hand, so this is who you'll ask what the character can sign. Each interaction will be different, so please let your nephew know he may get a "Sure thing, pal!" from one and a "How about a hug instead?" from another. Often, it depends on a character's physical limitations, such as large gloves or, in some cases, furry paws!

My pal Jana answered a similar question recently, and she suggests bringing along a plan B for any characters who are unable to sign the cast. My son treasured his Disney autograph book, and I've also seen guests have characters sign souvenirs, such as water bottles. You can read some of Jana's other helpful suggestions here.

One tip is to let the characters know that your nephew recently broke his arm. They enjoy interacting with guests and are sure to commiserate and try to do their best to sprinkle some Disney magic on your nephew's day. Having a family member video some of these interactions might be a great keepsake, too.

I don't know if he'll be able to sign the cast, but I'm sure Stitch would enjoy hanging loose with your family. My favorite place to meet this fuzzy blue rascal is at Magic Kingdom Park, near Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin. You can find times to meet him in the My Disney Experience mobile app.

Mattie, I have a feeling that your nephew is going to make the most of an unfortunate situation and have an absolutely wonderful time. Thanks again for stopping by planDisney, and just keep swimming!

    Magic awaits,
    Elaine
