hello, my name is Christina and i have twin boys Sebastian and Ezekiel that have autism. we live in Oregon and the boys have wanted to come to see cars in California aventure park. is there any things i need to know. is there any sensory rooms at the parks

    Hi, Christina!

Thanks for sending your question to me. Your boys are going to love Cars Land in Disney California Adventure Park! Mater's Junkyard Jamboree always makes my family laugh, and Radiator Springs Racers is one of my favorite attractions in Disneyland. Just make sure to check the height requirements before booking your trip to ensure your kids are tall enough to ride.

A few options are available that may help support your kids while at Disneyland. First, the Disability Access Service (DAS) offers services for individuals with developmental disabilities, such as autism. With DAS, Guests can request a time to return to an attraction instead of waiting in the standby line, which is a great option if it's challenging for your kids to wait in a long line.

To see if your family qualifies for DAS, you can request a live video chat to speak with a Cast Member up to 60 days before your planned park visit. You and your kids will need to be present for the conversation, so you may want to do it after school or on a weekend, as the chat is usually available from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM Pacific Time.

My favorite quiet spot in California Adventure Park is the Redwood Creek Challenge Trail. There are plenty of areas for kids to explore and climb (or just relax), and it's usually pretty calm. It does get busier during the holiday season, as Santa Claus often stops by, so you may want to pick a different time of year to visit.

The Disney Animation Building in Hollywood Land is another option for kids who need a quiet, cool place to relax. Video clips from movies are continuously played in the large room, so headphones may be helpful, but the lighting is low, and there is plenty of space to move around.

If you decide to head over to Disneyland Park (which I hope you do!), make sure to spend time in Mickey's Toontown. CenTOONial Park offers interactive activities and a nearby water feature that is great for sensory relief. Over in Fantasyland, there is a quiet, shaded area behind Edelweiss Snacks that offers a nice reprieve from the rest of the park.

I recommend checking out the Services for Guests Who Are Neurodivergent page for additional tips on traveling with kids with autism. On the page, there is a Sensory Experience Details document that outlines the sensory elements found in most parts of Disneyland, including attractions.

Christina, I hope this information is helpful. Feel free to reach out to me again if you have additional questions!
