My Mom broke her ankle a couple weeks ag and we're still going on our trip. She already had reserved a scooter prior, but I'm wondering if there's info to be gained on what rides to avoid, or any tips for navigating with a broken ankle.

    Hey there William,

Welcome to planDisney and thanks so much for reaching out with your question! I'm so sorry to hear that your Mom broke her ankle. That's definitely not ideal timing with your trip to the Happiest Place on Earth coming up, but I'm glad you're still able to make it work and that she reserved a scooter ahead of time. That was a smart planning move on her part!

Since your Mom will be navigating the parks with a broken ankle and a scooter, here are a few things I'd recommend keeping in mind. First, many of the attractions at the Disneyland Resort do have accessible entrances that allow Guests using mobility devices like scooters to enter with less walking involved. However, the scooter itself may not be able to accompany her onto the actual ride vehicles, so she may need to transfer from the scooter to the attraction's seating. The good news is that Cast Members are fantastic at assisting Guests with mobility needs, so don't hesitate to ask for help!

I'd suggest visiting the extremely helpful Accessibility page, which has a wealth of resources and information that will help you plan for your trip. This page includes links to lists of attractions that include Wheelchair Access Vehicles, Transfer Access Vehicles, and other transfer devices that might be options to consider experiencing during your visit.

Additionally, and possibly an obvious one, but make sure she follows her doctor's recommendations on what kind of movement (and attractions) might be appropriate for her on the trip! As you may know, there are a number of attractions at the Disneyland Resort that feature twists, turns, and go pretty fast, so we definitely want to make sure she stays safe. If you're unsure, then I would recommend again chatting with a Cast Member at the attraction's entrance to get a better idea of if it might be a good fit to experience.

Lastly, I'd recommend taking breaks throughout the day - the parks are vast and a broken ankle combined with navigating a scooter can be tiring. Don't be afraid to head back to your hotel for a midday rest if needed. The Happiest Place on Earth will still be there when you return!

Your support in helping your Mom enjoy the parks will make all the difference in creating magical memories despite the circumstances. Thanks again for your question, William, and have a wonderful visit to the Disneyland Resort!
