I’m a newer DVC member with a use year starting in December. We’re planning to do a family trip using 3 years of points in December of 2027. I plan to book in May 2027. Which years points am I drawing from since my use year and travel month is the same?

Welcome Home, Teresa! Congratulations on joining Disney Vacation Club (aka the coolest club around), and thanks for stopping by planDisney. Navigating the ins and outs of a new DVC Membership can definitely be a bit confusing, but you've come to the right place. We Michiganders have to stick together!

I love that you are planning ahead for a big family vacation in 2027. One of the best features of Disney Vacation Club is the ability to use your Vacation Points flexibly to make trips of all varieties a possibility. The vacation you're dreaming of sounds epic, and I can walk you through how to use your points for this magical Disney adventure.

Your points are going to come from three separate Use Years - let's clarify which years:
    • You will need to bank points from your 2026 Use Year into your 2027 Use Year. The 2026 points will be allotted on December 1, 2026. This handy chart from the DVC website lists all of the banking deadlines (it's a great resource to bookmark for future reference!). For a December Use Year, points must be banked by July 31, 2027
    • Next, your points from your 2027 Use Year can be used for this trip. You will receive this batch of points on December 1, 2027.
    • Finally, you'll need to borrow points from your 2028 Use Year into your 2027 year.
Teresa, it's important to know that banking and borrowing are both final transactions. This means that once you move Vacation Points into a different Use Year, they cannot be moved again. If you move all of the points we discussed above into your 2027 Use Year and then cancel the trip, all of them will expire at the end of that year (November 30, 2028).

One other DVC tip - in the weeks leading up to your amazing 2027 vacation (or any other trips "Home" between now and then), be sure to take a peek at the Member Benefits site, which is an up-to-date directory of all of the deals and discounts available at Walt Disney World Resort, Disneyland Resort, and beyond!

I hope this information is helpful - please come back anytime if we can help with any other questions as you're getting acquainted with your Membership!  Thanks again for visiting planDisney.

    Stay Magical!
