Ahoy, Jennifer, thanks for floating by planDisney!
As one of the physicians on the panel (and a fellow self-proclaimed person with OCD), I had to grab your question. As the mama of a kiddo with a
chronic medical condition, my luggage always contains tons of medical items, so let's talk about what you can bring with you onboard.
In general, feel free to bring any medications you feel you will need, as well as bandages, wraps, etc. If the wraps need to be cut, make sure that the scissors you bring are either blunt tip, and/or smaller than 4 inches (in other words, your toiletry scissors are acceptable). You can bring the ice/heat packs, but heating pads are prohibited.
You can also bring monitoring equipment with you, but anything that needs to be plugged in has to follow the
wattage guidelines and will be inspected before being allowed on the ship (and allowing it is at the discretion of the cruise staff). Also, remember that if any of your monitoring equipment requires WiFi, the
ship's WiFi is slower than you're probably used to, so make sure you can use it offline or with alternate connectivity. My son wears a seizure watch to bed, and when we're onboard, we switch his connectivity to make sure that the signal always comes through.
Jennifer, rest assured that there are
qualified medical personnel available 24/7 onboard. Every ship has excellent physicians and nursing staff (I visit the
Health Centers and clock their location in case we need to get there quickly). Also, the ship sells several medical items in its
shops, including allergy, anti-nausea, and pain meds, bandaids, creams, and thermometers. Feel free to sail back if you have any other questions, I wish you smooth sailing.
