Hi Daniel!
Thanks for bringing this question to planDisney!
You’re right…there used to be a special behind-the-scenes tour all about the steam trains at Disney World. It was called The Magic Behind Our Steam Trains Tour, and you got to learn about Walt Disney’s love of trains and how they’re run at Disney World.
Unfortunately, that tour isn’t operating at this time. But I do have some other options for you!
First of all, the
Walt Disney World Railroad is up and running despite the tour not operating. These steam trains were originally built between 1916 and 1928. Nowadays, they can take you around the entire Magic Kingdom. You can hop aboard at 1 of 3 stations around the park, and it takes about 20 minutes if you want to complete the entire loop.
The next thing that you might enjoy leading up to your trip is checking out the series “One Day at Disney (Shorts)” on
Disney+. Season 1, Episode 50 follows a steam train engineer. While this episode takes place at Disneyland instead of Disney World, it still gives you a behind-the-scenes look at these amazing trains.
It’s good to note that even though The Magic Behind Our Steam Trains Tour hasn’t returned at this time, there are other behind-the-scenes tours offered if you’re interested. My husband and I went on the
Keys to the Kingdom Tour recently and loved every second of it! You can find a full list of the available tours in the
Enchanting Extras Collection.
Enchanting Extras can be booked up to 60 days prior to your trip pending availability, and advanced reservations are highly recommended.
