Welcome to planDisney, Jonathan! Captain EO was a favorite of mine growing up as well! I cannot tell you how many times I watched EO, Fuzzball, Hooter and the rest of the crew set off on their quest “to change the world.”
As of right now, Disney has not announced plans to bring Captain EO back to the former Magic Eye Theater for its 40th anniversary. If you would like to keep on top of news of a return, I would recommend following the
Disney Parks Blog, as well as Disney Parks on social media. These will be your go-to sources for any announcements so be sure to check there often!
If you are looking to experience the Magic Eye Theater itself again, I do have some good news! It has recently reopened as the Tomorrowland Theater. Inside, you can enjoy the
Pixar Short Film Spotlight, which features a set of three Pixar shorts. The show runs approximately 20 minutes, which is a great way to not only have some laughs, but also relax in a cool environment. It is perfect for a midday break.
Also, if you are looking for another George Lucas/Disney collaboration, just down the way you’ll find
Star Tours: The Adventures Continue. Here you can go on a thrilling adventure in a galaxy far, far away, with C-3PO and R2-D2 leading the way. Each ride is randomized so you may see sights you have never seen before each time you ride! It’s the best way to see the galaxy, for sure.
While there are no announced Captain EO plans to have Captain EO return, Jonathan, his message of brighter days still lives on at Disneyland. I know I’m keeping my fingers crossed that we’ll see this adventure return someday. In the meantime, if you're looking for more ways to make magical memories at Disneyland, please visit us here at planDisney again!
Have a magical day!
