All aboard Michael, and welcome to planDisney!
I love the tours at Disney World that give you a behind-the-scenes look at what brings the theme parks to life. Unfortunately, The Magic Behind Our Steam Trains Tour is not currently running, but I’d still recommend taking the 1.5-mile scenic ride around
Magic Kingdom on the
Walt Disney World Railroad! There are three stations where you can board or disembark, or you can stay on for the full loop which takes 20 minutes. It’s definitely the most fun and nostalgic way to get around the park!
To learn more about these historic vehicles, my fellow panelist
Jenn J. suggested checking out the
One Day at Disney Shorts on
Disney+. Season 1, Episode 50 follows a steam train engineer at Disneyland. Although it's not the trains at Disney World, it gives you an in-depth look at these magical vehicles that Walt loved so much.
If you’re interested in digging a little deeper into Magic Kingdom, you might like
Disney’s Keys to the Kingdom Tour. This 5-hour peek behind the magic gives you the unique opportunity to explore the underground service tunnels and hear how the Imagineers meticulously designed every detail of the park. It’s one of my favorite Disney World tours and you’ll never look at Magic Kingdom in quite the same way!
Since it sounds like you love trains, I wanted to mention one last hidden gem! Tucked away off of the
Boulder Ridge Villas lobby at
Disney’s Wilderness Lodge, you’ll find the
Carolwood Pacific Room, dedicated to Walt Disney’s backyard railroad. There are photos of Walt and even original cars from his miniature railway--how cool is that?! Wilderness Lodge is a short boat ride away from Magic Kingdom. And while you’re there, be sure to stop by
Geyser Point Bar & Grill for a yummy meal with a beautiful water view (the Bison Cheeseburger is one of my favorite Disney World burgers!).
I hope you have a magical visit to Disney World and get a chance to take a relaxing train ride around Magic Kingdom! Feel free to visit us again at planDisney if you have any other questions.
