Hi Faye, and welcome to planDisney! I love collecting Disney artwork and have also discovered a few favorite artists over the years.
I haven’t been able to find a published schedule for the sketch artists at
The Art of Disney store. However, you can find dates for special artist appearances and showcases on the
Merchandise Events page. For instance,
William Silvers will be at The Art of Disney April 3-20, and four
Thomas Kinkade artists will be there April 18-27. It’s really cool to be able to meet the artists and have your pieces signed. Other artists will be meeting in the parks, so keep an eye on the website as dates and details are added.
Since it sounds like you love Disney artwork as much as me, you might consider planning your next trip to coincide with the
EPCOT International Festival of the Arts, which typically runs in January and February. It’s one of my favorite events because you'll find lots of artwork for sale around the park with many opportunities to meet the artists. I've gotten some amazing pieces from the booths at this festival! Also, coming from New York, it’s a great time to escape the cold.
And if you’re looking to make some artwork of your own, don’t miss
The Animation Experience tucked away in Rafiki’s Planet Watch at
Animal Kingdom. It’s a great way to cool off in the air conditioning and learn to draw beloved Disney characters. Another fun activity is the
mosaic craft at many of the resort hotels. I recently made one at the
Contemporary during a midday break, just a walk away from
Magic Kingdom!
Safe travels to Disney World and I hope you have a magical visit! If you have any other questions, we’d love to have you back at planDisney.
