Hi Heather. Welcome to planDisney!
Isn't
Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend inspiring? I find myself often telling folks that if you're looking for a little morale boost, go cheer on a marathon. Bearing witness as people from all
walks (ha! get it?) of life conquer a goal set months before is a genuinely special honor. In a million lifetimes, I'll never get enough!
Add in a sunrise stroll "Right down the middle of Main Street, U.S.A." in
Magic Kingdom Park with thousands of your best running friends and you have an experience that can't be topped.
Heather, I'm here to tell you that
runDisney is for just about everyone! Walkers are always welcome. Provided you meet the minimum age requirement for each distance and can keep the required average pace, there is a space in a start corral just waiting for you!
Let me say a little more about that minimum pace requirement: In general, runDisney requires an average minimum pace of 16 minutes/mile. If you are concerned, always be sure to check the specific race policies for the event that has caught your attention.
What happens if you find yourself having the time of your life with the rare race characters and fall behind pace? Friendly Cast Members will give you a little encouragement to just keep swimming...er...running. If you decide that your race experience is complete a little before the finish line or if you are running a little late on the course, your on-course carriage (bus) awaits to shuttle you to the finish line celebration.
Can I tell you a little secret? You can do this. If you have felt that one little spark, you can do it. If you can even imagine crossing that finish line with so many strangers, volunteers, new best friends, and your friends and family cheering you on, you can do it. As Walt said, "If you can dream it, you can do it."
I believe in you. I hope to see you at the start! -Sally
