We will be vacationing in WDW from July 22 to the 29th, right when Genie+ is switching to Lightning Lane. Will Lightning Lane be available 7 days prior to the start date of our vacation to make reservations?

    Hi Sarah,

I know there is always a lot of concern when things are changing especially if they change right in the middle of your vacation. The new Lightning Lane Multi Pass and Lightning Lane Single Pass system will be a game changer for those of us who like to plan our day out ahead of time. I am personally super excited about this launch!

This system officially launches on July 24th. As a result, you will not be able to purchase passes or use the new system until July 24th. Prices for Lightning Lane Multi Passes will vary by date and theme park. Starting on July 24th, you will be able to see the daily price in the My Disney Experience app.

For the first few days of your visit, you will still be able to use the current Genie+ Service to secure Lightning Lane Access or purchase Individual Lightning Lanes. These will only be available on the day of your visit. If you have not used this system before, I find that it is most useful if you start your day out early and focus on securing Lightning Lane entry for attractions with the longest wait times. This enables you to maximize how many attractions you can visit in one day.

After the transition on July 24th, you will be able to switch over to the new Lightning Lane Multi Pass. I recommend checking out these quick videos before your visit so you aren't trying to navigate something completely new mid-vacation. I would also review which attractions are included with each type of pass so you have a plan ahead of time to keep yourself from getting stressed on vacation.

Don't forget that traditional standby lines are also always an option for most attractions and experiences. If you find yourself frustrated with technology, put down your phone and jump in line to experience the theme park old-school style!

    Happy Planning,
    Jenna
