Your first decision is choosing the
type of stateroom that fits both your vacation style and your budget:
• Inside Stateroom – No exterior view, but a great value.
• Oceanview Stateroom – Includes a porthole window.
• Verandah Stateroom – Includes a private balcony.
• Concierge Stateroom – Think of it as your own luxurious retreat with premium accommodations and elevated service.
Depending on the ship, Concierge staterooms can accommodate anywhere from four to eight Guests, while non-Concierge staterooms typically sleep between three and five Guests.
Since you're traveling with three adults, I would also think about sleeping arrangements before choosing a room. Will two adults share the queen bed, or does everyone need their own sleeping space? A stateroom that sleeps three includes the queen bed and the sofa bed. A stateroom that sleeps four adds the ceiling pull-down bed (bunk bed), while a stateroom that sleeps five also includes the lower wall pull-down bed (Murphy bed).
Height can make a difference, too. I'm 6 foot 2 inches, and from personal experience, I can tell you I just barely fit comfortably on the sofa bed with my legs fully stretched out. It's perfectly comfortable, but if I had the choice, I'd happily volunteer for the queen bed every time!
While a stateroom that sleeps four will certainly work, my recommendation is to look at an Oceanview or Verandah Stateroom that sleeps five if your budget allows. That's what my crew prefers now that my kids are older and have developed opinions about who gets which bed! Having that extra Murphy bed opens up the room during the day, gives everyone a little more personal space at night, and makes the stateroom feel less crowded.
If your budget has a little extra pixie dust, I'd take it one step further and consider
two connecting staterooms. My family loves connecting rooms because they give everyone room to spread out, and the second bathroom is worth its weight in gold when everyone is trying to get ready for dinner after a fun day ashore. It's amazing how much smoother the evening routine goes when there are two showers instead of one!
