I will be traveling to Disney in May with my family. If we were being upgraded to a new hotel would our current hotel reach out to us or would I have to call them? Otherwise would it be something I need to pay to upgrade?

    Hello Makayla,

Thanks for bringing a question to us today! I'm so excited to hear about your upcoming trip. Whether it's your very first visit or you consider yourself a Walt Disney World Resort expert, there is always new magic in store just waiting to be discovered.

I'm not sure what Disney Resorts Collection hotel you have booked, but as an on-site guest, you'll enjoy themed rooms and resort grounds, complimentary transportation to and from the theme parks each day, and more time to enjoy the parks with Early Theme Park Entry. There are so many fantastic benefits to staying on property you're already well on your way to a magical vacation!

I'm sure you've heard a few inspiring stories about guests experiencing a moment of pixie dust on their trips. Back in 2022, my daughter and I were surprised when our Little Mermaid Standard Room at Disney's Art of Animation Resort was switched to a Cars Family Suite. This was very unexpected and has never been repeated, so you can imagine our shock and excitement over such a magical moment. While it's not unheard of for guests to receive a bit of surprise pixie dust here and there, in almost all cases guests will stay at the same resort and in the specific room type they booked when making their reservation.

That being said, sometimes situations arise that warrant guests being contacted about their accommodations. Disney's BoardWalk Villas are still undergoing refurbishment and I have heard some instances of guests being asked to switch resorts before their arrival. However, situations like this are usually few and far between. In the event of maintenance issues or other unforeseen circumstances, your travel party may be contacted with a change request but upgrades to different room types and/or resorts are not the standard practice.

Your vacation is still far enough out that you can contact a Cast Member should you decide to upgrade your accommodations. Any changes made on your end would be subject to additional fees if your new resort or room is more expensive than what you initially booked.

I hope this clears up any confusion or worry on your end, Makayla. Remember, pixie dust is already all around you when visiting Walt Disney World Resort. It's in the smiles of the excited children standing next to you, in the friendly "hello" from helpful Cast Members, the nostalgic music that echoes through the parks, and most importantly in your outlook. Magic somehow finds its way to me when I'm least expecting it, and I hope the same for you on each day of your visit.

Please come back and see us again with more planning questions as you countdown to your trip this May.

    Magic and memories,
    Amy
