We are traveling to Disney at the end of August with a four month old for a big family trip. I have been reading about the baby care centers and going to parks early/late as I’m a bit worried about the heat. Any other tips?

Hi there, Kristen, and welcome to planDisney, where we love to answer your Disney vacation planning questions mostly from the comfort of our air-conditioned homes. You're on the right track to think about ways to stay cool during your August Walt Disney World vacation. I've visited a few times in August, and the Florida heat in mid-summer is no joke! But you've come to the right place because I have a few tips up my sleeve to help you think about how much cooler you'll be in summer.

First of all, hydrate, hydrate, hydrate, hydrate and then hydrate some more. You must take care of yourself before you can take care of your baby. While it can get very hot during midday, there are many places to cool off inside where it's air-conditioned. Think about reserving a Table-Service meal for lunch indoors each day. Not only will you be seated inside where it's cool, you'll be able to refuel for the rest of your day and hydrate even more. Also, indoor attractions are your friend. Mickey's PhilharMagic at Magic Kingdom, Impressions de France at EPCOT, Zootopia: Better Zoogether! at Animal Kingdom and For the First Time in Forever: A Frozen Sing-Along Celebration in Hollywood Studios are a few favorites I've enjoyed while traveling with babies. Lightning Lane Passes can be very useful to minimize wait times during the hottest part of the day. And yes, Baby Care Centers are going to come in really handy for all your needs like changing your baby, feedings, emergency supplies and even just for a little respite.

I also recommend bringing cool towels and a neck fan to help you stay cool as well as a stroller fan for your baby. You can bring a small cooler into the parks as well as long as it's in accordance with the Walt Disney World Resort Property Rules. Just keep in mind that loose ice isn't allowed. I like to bring zip top bags to bag up some ice when I bring a cooler. It can be helpful to keep water bottles cold (because, hydrate) or even to store your cool towels to keep them cold. Finally, rest as much as you need to, when you need to. There is absolutely nothing wrong with an afternoon break for a long nap or a dip in the pool at your Disney Resorts Collection Hotel. Then, when it cools off a bit, you'll be refreshed for a fun evening.

Kristen, I hope this has been helpful. You can do this! Have a magical time, and please visit us again with any other Disney vacation planning questions.
