Hey there, Teresa!
Thanks for stopping by planDisney to ask me your question about the new Lightning Lane Multi Pass and Single Pass. Although I’ve visited the Disney Parks a few times since it’s been introduced, I haven’t used it yet. But Hakuna Matata! As a lover of all-things-Disney-attractions, I’ve got you covered with some tips and tricks.
First things first, let’s talk about how accessing an attraction’s
Lightning Lane queue will help you to have a practically perfect day. Many experiences at the Disney Parks have both a standby queue and a Lightning Lane. The Lightning Lane is the queue that is prioritized by Cast Members who help move the line along. So, for you, that means that you’ll get to board your favorite rides a lot faster.
To access the Lightning Lane, you’ll either need a Lightning Lane Multi Pass and/or a Single Pass. Starting with the Lightning Lane Multi Pass: This pass covers most of the attractions’ Lightning Lanes. For example, at Magic Kingdom Park, this includes attractions like Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, Space Mountain, and the iconic Pirates of the Caribbean. The Single Pass, which you don’t need to have the Multi Pass in order to purchase, is for those highly popular attractions like TRON Lightcycle / Run and Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind. A Single Pass is bought per attraction (versus the Multi Pass being used to book multiple experiences).
If you’re staying at a Disney Resorts Collection hotel, you can purchase a Lightning Lane Multi Pass and/or a Lightning Lane Single Pass up to 7 days before your visit. I LOVE that! And if you’re staying off-property (like I usually do because I’m a “local”) and you have a theme park ticket or annual pass, you can start booking Lightning Lanes up to 3 days in advance.
I recommend that you log in to the
My Disney Experience App a few minutes before the clock strikes 7 a.m. EST. I do this for Virtual Queue boarding group selections, too, because I want to double check that my entire crew is there and that I’m truly logged in. Right at 7 a.m., it’s go time. The cool part? You don’t have to make any purchases until all of your Lightning Lane experience selections are made. So, if you don’t quite see the choices that you want, you can either make any choice (and you can modify it to something else or to another time later) or decide not to pay. I like to choose attractions that usually have longer waits like Peter Pan’s Flight (Magic Kingdom Park), Navi River Journey (Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park), and Frozen Ever After (EPCOT).
AN EXTRA GEM: Three of the theme parks use a tiered ride system for the Lightning Lane Multi Pass. You can make up to 3 experience selections, but only one can be a ride on the higher group’s list. The other two attractions (or you can pick all three) must be from the lower group. Teresa, once you’ve tapped into a Lightning Lane to redeem it, immediately go to your My Disney Experience App and book another attraction to add to your three choices. And this newly added attraction can come from either of the groups.
The new Lightning Lane system may seem like “A Whole New World” but being able to plan out so much of your theme park days beforehand will make them even more enjoyable. If you have further questions about how to make the most of your vacation,

Magic always,
LeAndra
