Hiya, Anita! Welcome to planDisney! Your Walt Disney World vacation countdown is almost to “0” and before long you’ll be enjoying Mickey-shaped beignets and all the other Mickey-shaped foods you could want! Woo hoo!
I’m a big fan of the
Port Orleans resorts, but my travels to the Vacation Kingdom haven’t taken me there during the Mardi Gras season. I’ll have to add this parade to my Disney bucket list!
The details of the parade at Port Orleans Resort haven’t been released yet, but I did a little digging into previous celebrations (my co-panelist, Lizzie, has a great summary of the event
here). It sounds like the parade has historically kicked off around 10 A.M. on Fat Tuesday, which falls on March 4th this year, and the cavalcade of Cast Member-made floats usually follows a route along the Sassagoula River. Details are often shared closer to the event in the Port Orleans - French Quarter lobby and at the front desk.
Again, this is what’s happened in past years and event details are subject to change. It looks like you may get to Walt Disney World just in time for the festivities, so be sure to ask a Cast Member for more information when you arrive. You can also keep an eye on the
Disney Parks Blog for information. There are some
pictures of floats from past years on the site, and I’m amazed at what Cast Members can do with a simple golf cart!
Anita, I hope this info helps with your vacation planning. While the Mardi Gras parade won’t be held on March 5th, remember that the
EPCOT International Flower and Garden Festival kicks off that day. You won’t want to miss all the beautiful topiaries and special food offerings, as well as the Garden Rocks concert series.
If any other vacation questions arise, you can always pop back to planDisney and ask away! Our knowledgeable panelists are happy to help!
