Welcome to planDisney, Tara!
I'm so glad you stopped by as you prepare for your upcoming Walt Disney World vacation. Can you believe that you're
almost there?!? Let's get right to your question so that you can
let the good times roll!
Although my planDisney bio will tell you that I'm from Georgia, I've been married to a Louisiana native for over a decade, so I'm no stranger to Mardi Gras celebrations. With this in mind, you'll be happy to hear that the annual festivities at Disney's Port Orleans Resorts feel magically authentic!
Although Port Orleans - French Quarter's theming makes every day feel like a Mardi Gras celebration, you'll find that the special events are reserved for Fat Tuesday which falls on March 4, 2025. The Resort honors the season in a variety of ways — appearances by Tiana, exclusive merchandise, and seasonal treats — but the highlight for most Guests is the Fat Tuesday parade. Beginning at
Port Orleans - Riverside, this
fun parade of Cast Member decorated golf carts follows a route along the Sassagoula River before concluding in the French Quarter. An exact schedule for Fat Tuesday's events has not yet been released, but historically, the parade kicks off around 10 AM.
Although we can make predication based upon previous celebrations, it's important to remember that Walt Disney World's celebrations can vary from year to year, so I encourage you to keep an eye on the
Disney Parks Blog as your visit approaches to see if you might get a sneak peek of what to expect. Of course, sometimes Mickey prefers to surprise his Guests with a bit of spontaneous magic, so you'll want to stop by the Front Desk of the hotel upon arrival to see if Cast Members have any fun details to share with you that were not released online. I'll actually be calling Port Orleans - French Quarter my pixie-dusted home away from home this weekend, so I'll be sure to keep an eye out for information!
Did you know that the
rooms of Disney's Port Orleans Resort - French Quarter are currently undergoing refurbishment, Tara? My husband and I were delighted to stay in a refurbished King Room during a recent visit, and we adored the subtle Tiana-inspired touches and beautifully tiled bathroom floors. I encourage you to reach out to a Cast Member at
Disney Resort Hotel Reservations before arrival to request a refurbished room. Although requests such as this cannot be guaranteed, it never hurts to ask!
I hope this was helpful, Tara, and that you love Disney's Port Orleans Resorts as much as I do. It's one of my very favorite places to hang my mouse ears! If you'd like any additional advice for your upcoming stay, feel free to channel your inner Tarzan
swing back by planDisney. I'm always happy to help!
Thinking Happy Thoughts,
Lizzie
