Hi am taking my two year old boy to walt disney world in june and he's scared of loud noises like fireworks and stuff like that, how can i help him prepare before the trip since i know there will be fireworks and peter pan's flight is loud too

    Hi Angelica,

I completely understand your worries. My oldest was always easily startled by loud noises when he was younger. The good news is we learned to work around it and he quickly out grew it, so hopefully you will have the same luck.

Before you arrive you could watch some of the great home videos and promotional videos on YouTube.com.  By searching Disney World attractions videos, you can find a number of clips of the attractions and shows. Try watching some with your son and explain what the attraction will be like. Make him familiar with the Disney characters that he will find in the shows and attractions. My kids weren't nearly as frightened by Captain Hook in the Peter Pan attraction, since they had watched the movie and they knew who he was. This would also be a great chance to ask him what Disney friends he wants to see. While the answers may change, this will get him thinking of the attractions and characters as pals. If you have firework shows at home before your Disney trip, be sure to go and see how he responds. Let him see the lights and noises will not hurt him.

Once at the park, go at his speed. Stay further away from the firework displays and only move closer if he is comfortable. We also found a great way to muffle the noises was a good pair of earmuffs, or even a child's headset with music playing. By going at his comfort level and letting him settle into the noises and sights around him, you will all have a great time.
