Hi I would like to surprise my son with our first cruise ever. He has autism. What would we need? He is a US citizen and I am mexican. I am also a Veteran and would like for my son to see how beautiful this country is.

    Welcome, Lazara!

Thank you so much for reaching out to planDisney, I’d love to help you understand how to plan a wonderful surprise cruise for your son. We have a lot to discuss, so let’s dive in together!

This week we celebrated National Plan for Vacation Day, and you’ll find a Disney Cruise Line Vacation Planning Checklist here (about midway down the page) to navigate you through the process. First, check out the incredible itineraries based on when and where you’d like to sail. Since you live in Florida, searching by departures from Port Canaveral or Miami would make for an easier first-time cruise as there are fewer travel logistics. Plus, stopping at the private island of Disney Castaway Cay is an ideal first-time cruise itinerary! If you’re unsure of how your family would enjoy cruise travel, a 3, 4, or 5-night sailing may be a nice entry for you.

I’m proud to share that inclusion is a core value at Disney, and there are many accommodations and support to make your son’s trip magical in a very personalized way. Please see alumni panelist Jacqueline’s wonderful information and experience shared here regarding travel with an autistic child. Please also see this important information from Disney Cruise Line to know what to expect for your son, and I encourage you to contact Disney Cruise Line Special Services who can help with understanding what’s available even before you book a cruise.

There are special offers for Military Rates, but please review the details as these apply to active and retired U.S. Military Personnel and their spouses. Several other Special Offers are available now to take advantage of: a reduced deposit offer, discounted sailings, and a Florida Resident offer. So many ways to save; I hope one of these is the right fit for your family’s vacation!

Citizenship documentation requirements will vary depending on which itinerary you select, Lazara, but is a critical aspect of cruise travel. Be sure to review what’s required and never hesitate to contact Disney Cruise Line for exact details once you’ve booked your special cruise.

As your plans start to fall into place, please reach out to us for any clarification or ways we can help make your son’s surprise cruise even more magical! You are an amazing parent, and I’m so excited for you to share this special trip together!

    Wishing you a magical sailing,
    Amy
