Can you make suggestions on activities to book on Disney Castaway Cay for an 8 year old and her adult family. We are wondering about the water temperatures for booking activities.

    Ahoy there, Jackie,

Welcome to planDisney; we are glad you are here! How exciting to have a Disney Cruise Line vacation just over the horizon! You and your extended family are going to have the best time since there are activities and entertainment for the youngest to the most seasoned sailors in your crew.

Disney Castaway Cay is no exception when it comes to creating cherished moments for all. This little slice of paradise is one of my very favorite ports of call. January water temperature is typically in the mid-70 degree range and the air temperature is about the same. Of course, if the sun is shining, you can expect it to feel a little warmer. Don't forget your sunscreen, a cap or sun hat, and I usually bring a rash guard shirt to keep the sun at bay while I'm relaxing in the stunning turquoise blue water.

One of my favorite ways to enjoy the island is the Castaway Getaway Package which offers bicycle, float or intertube, and snorkeling equipment rental. It is a "choose your own adventure" way to spend your day because you can decide when to take advantage of your options. After you've worked up a sweat touring the island by back, you will be ready to cool off in the refreshing water. You can "plus-up" this adventure to include Castaway Ray's Stingray Adventure by booking the Extreme Getaway Package. If you prefer less activity and more stingrays, you can book Castaway Ray's Stingray Adventure as a stand-alone Port Adventure. I've enjoyed each of these Port Adventures and recommend them for a family like yours. Another option that I've heard extended families enjoying is the Glass Bottom Boat Scenic Voyage. While I haven't tried it myself, it sounds like an enjoyable way to enjoy the beautiful water without getting in it.

No matter what you decide to do, don't forget to take some iconic pictures! One of the best locations is Mt. Rustmore, with "The Fab Five" characters painted on extra-large buoys and located between the first tram stop and the family beach. If you don't see it, just ask a Crew Member to point you in the right direction. To get your whole family in the photo, I've always had great luck asking a fellow Guest to take your picture.

Jackie, I hope this information is helpful as you plan the details of your vacation. I know your granddaughter will remember spending this time with you forever!

    Wishing you many magical memories,
    Shannon
