Hello! I am staying at the Polynesian the weekend of the Walt Disney World Marathon. Will my family be able to come that morning to meet me at the Polynesian so that we can walk to the TTC from there and cheer on some runners? Thank you!

Aloha! Holli, I am so glad you raced by planDisney with this question. Wanting to cheer on runners for the Walt Disney World Marathon has me cheering for you! I love your spirit!

Last year, while running down Main Street, U.S.A., I heard my name coming from the sidelines. Squeals and even a few tears followed when I saw my friend Melissa there for me. We are both running the marathon this year, so we’ll be happy knowing you and your family will be there. It is so motivating!

As a Guest at the Polynesian, you can usually welcome family and friends to use the parking lot to visit you at the resort. When they get to the gate, they will likely be asked for photo identification and the name and room number on the reservation. Unless the lots are full, they should be able to park without issue.

I double-checked with a Cast Member because the Polynesian is really close to the race route, and there are several road closures in the area. She confirmed that your parents will be able to get to the Polynesian. She suggested you check with the Front Desk about a day pass for them. This is helpful to let the resort know to expect their arrival.

With the race routes, your parents may want to be aware of road closures and unusual traffic patterns. In my experience, they are well-marked and have plenty of security officers and other Cast Members to help travelers.

With just days until the big race, information for spectators is available on the runDisney expo site. This year, Magic Kingdom Park is Mile 9. The park will be open for spectators from 5 a.m. - 7:30 a.m. In past races, we have been delighted to have cheerleaders at the Transportation & Ticket Center (TTC) and on Main Street. If you are heading to the Magic Kingdom, hop aboard the Disney Monorail at the TTC. Theme park admission is not required for this magical view of Cinderella Castle and a parade of athletes who will be so excited to have you there.

The weather forecast looks a little chilly for the weekend. Bundle up! And if you see a runner in black tights and a Tarzan shirt, it might be me. I will certainly think about you when I reach this destination.

If you have any other questions about your upcoming trip to the Most Magical Place to Race, come see us again at planDisney! We’re always cheering for you!

    See ‘Ya Real Soon!
