Hey there, Tobi!
I’m so happy to welcome you back to planDisney! It sounds like you’re already looking ahead to your
summer visit to the Most Magical Place on Earth. My family visits Walt Disney World quite often during the summer, and we love it because there always seems to be something new and exciting to experience. I’m sure you’re getting excited as you count down to your trip!
How amazing that you’ll be staying in a Theme Park View room at
Disney’s Contemporary Resort! Being able to relax in your room and watch the fireworks over Magic Kingdom is such a dream. As a wheelchair user myself, I know how helpful it can be to have a good idea of what to expect from your accommodations before a vacation, especially when accessibility is an important part of planning.
The wheelchair-accessible room you’ve booked will feature two queen-size beds and a daybed. The beds are lower to the floor, which can make transfers a little easier. Depending on the specific accessible room you’ve reserved, the bathroom will have either a roll-in shower or a tub, and both options include grab bars.
The room itself is also quite spacious. There’s plenty of room between the entrance and the beds to comfortably maneuver a wheelchair, including enough space to turn around without having to make multiple back-and-forth movements. I really think you’ll be impressed with how much room you have to move around and make yourself comfortable during your stay!
Getting around the resort is also quite easy. Outside the resort, you’ll find paved pathways and ramps wherever they’re needed, making it easy to navigate in a wheelchair. Handicapped parking is also available.
As you probably know, the Contemporary is located right on the
monorail line, making transportation to Magic Kingdom and EPCOT incredibly convenient. You’ll be able to roll your wheelchair directly onto the monorail.
You also have the option of taking the accessible walking path from the resort to Magic Kingdom. I’ve used this path myself countless times, especially when I’m short on time, and I often find it quicker than waiting for the monorail.
Toni, I hope this is helpful as you continue planning. If you do have any other questions, feel free to
reach out to me directly. When it comes to accessibility at Walt Disney World, like Captain America says, "
I can do this all day." I'll be more than happy to help. Thanks again for visiting us at planDisney!
Magic Awaits,
Kami
