Hello! My 5 yo son has cerebral palsy and uses a wheelchair. ¿What accomodations, benefits, special viewing areas, or experiences should we know about to help him fully enjoy Disneyland CA? Many thanks for your help.

Hello and welcome to planDisney, friend. As Walt Disney said on opening day, "To all who come to this happy place: Welcome. Disneyland is your land." Those words still ring true today and are exemplified through inclusivity and accessibility seen throughout the resort.

In fact, it's one of the main reasons that my husband and I love visiting the parks and I'm happy to share some things that may be helpful for your visit. First, I recommend checking out the Accessibility at the Disneyland Resort page on the Disneyland website. There's a great section for Mobility that details how you can access attractions with a mobility device.

Most attractions queues offer plenty of space for wheelchairs and Electric Conveyance Vehicles (ECVs) to navigate through. For some of the older attraction queues that can't accommodate wheelchairs and ECVs, you can use the Location Return Time. We used this during a visit with my aunt, who was using an ECV. We spoke with the Cast Member at Peter Pan's Flight and they gave us a time to return to an auxiliary entry point to enjoy the ride together. You can also filter the different types of rides and their accessibility in the Disneyland app. From the map, tap "Attractions" from the top ribbon and then tap the filter button just below that (first button on the left). Scroll down to "Mobility Disabilities" and filter by category.

When it comes to nighttime spectaculars and entertainment, you also have some options. For Fantasmic! (my favorite nighttime spectacular) and World of Color, there are designated viewing areas for guests with wheelchairs and ECVs. Availability for these areas are first come first served, so I recommend arriving early to chat with a Cast Member who can direct you to where these locations are.

It looks like you'll be visiting during the spookiest time of the year, Halloween Time at the Disneyland Resort. Be sure to take in all of the gourd-geous decorations and meet Mickey and his pals dressed in their Halloween best. Your son can bring along an autograph book to collect signatures from all of the characters he meets during your visit. If it will be your son's first time at Disneyland, you can request a complimentary "1st Visit!" button from a Cast Member in many of the shops on Main Street, U.S.A.

Well, friend, I hope that the information I shared is helpful and gives you a good starting point as you start to plan for your visit. If I missed anything or if you have other questions, please come back to visit us. Until then, I'll be thinking happy thoughts and sending pixie dust as you put together your practically perfect trip. Here's to making core memories at the Happiest Place on Earth!
