Ahoy there, Lena! Your cruise on the Disney Destiny is going to be here before you know it, so I’m glad you sailed by planDisney with your question.
Your
5-Night Bahamian Cruise from Fort Lauderdale with stops at both
Disney’s Castaway Cay and
Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point is one of my favorite itineraries. You will have quite a few options to help you get around these island getaways, but I can understand why you’re concerned about how to navigate the terrain.
Disney Cruise Line does not rent ECVs on either island, but you can arrange to rent one in advance for the entirety of your cruise through a medical supply vendor. Two vendors you could check with are Scootaround and Special Needs at Sea.
My best advice for cruising around the islands is to make use of the trams available on both islands. Because docking looks different at each location, allow me to provide some additional insights for smooth sailing.
Guests needing assistance at Lookout Cay can use the shuttle service along the pier to Mabrika Cove where you may transfer to the tram that will take you to Goombay Cultural Center Tram Stop. The free
Disney Cruise Line Navigator app will be your guide to check for meeting times and locations. You should know that the shuttle operates on a first-come, first-serve basis and wait times may be up to 1 hour after ashore time, but reservations are not required.
At Castaway Cay, you’ll experience a short walk off the ship to the end of the pier where you can then pick up the tram to take you to the Castaway Family Beach (get off at Scuttle's Cove Tram Stop). You can also take the tram to Serenity Bay, the adult-exclusive beach. It’s a lovely ride that will drive you past the 5K route and down the airplane runway.
One other thing to consider: both private beaches also offer sand wheelchairs that are available on a first-come, first-served basis. At Castaway Cay, most of these chairs can be picked up across from Scuttle’s Cove, with a few available at Serenity Bay and Pelican Point. At Lighthouse Point, the chairs are available at the Family Beach Tram Stop.
It’s worth noting that while Castaway Cay and Lookout Cay are both private Disney locations in the Bahamas, Castaway Cay is a private island while Lookout Cay is situated on the island of Eleuthera. My fellow planDisney pal, McCayla, did a great job of describing the
highlights of both islands if you want an overview before you set sail.
Lena, you are sure to have a magical holiday adventure later this year filled with delicious dishes and island vibes. If you think of any other questions before your trip, I hope you'll visit us back here at
planDisney again.
Bon voyage,
Sami
