Hi there, Ellen,
Welcome to planDisney! I'm thrilled to hear you're planning to renew your
Magic Key for another year of magical adventures. It's a smart idea to renew before your pass expires since new sales of Magic Keys are still temporarily paused at this time.
Guests are able to renew up to 30 days before their pass expires. You'll find your pass' expiration date under the barcode in the Tickets and Passes section of your
Disneyland App. As my friend
Michelle explains in this similar answer, your renewed pass will be automatically activated beginning the day after the original expiration date. Unfortunately, you cannot change the activation date through the renewal process, even if you have to postpone your magical visits due to a work trip. Your other option would be to let your current pass expire and wait for new sales to become available once your work travel is complete.
I waited a long time to purchase my Annual Pass for Walt Disney World Resort and I know I'll be renewing even though I won't have any immediate trips on the horizon when my expiration date nears. You know your availability and circumstances best, so the decision is totally up to you.
If you decide to let your pass expire and wait to purchase a new one you'll want to keep a close eye on
Disney Parks Blog and the official
Disneyland Magic Key Instagram Page. You'll find the latest details there when pass sales resume.
Ellen, if we can answer any additional planning questions please come back and let us know. I'm wishing you safe travels and a warm holiday season.
Magic and memories,
Amy
