Hello! I have a question about returning to the Polynesian Resort following the fireworks at Magic Kingdom. I know the crowd is enormous waiting to board the monorail and boat so is it faster to walk to the Contemporary and board the resort monorail there?

    Hello Joshua!

What a fantastic question! I’m always on the lookout for ways to avoid lines and waiting, I avoid both as much as possible! You’re absolutely right that immediately after Happily Ever After, the transportation lines leaving Magic Kingdom can be overwhelming.

Here’s my top tip (and what my family does to avoid the chaos): instead of heading straight to the transportation lines, just wait a bit...not to wait in line, but to enjoy the magic around you! We usually wander over to Tomorrowland and take a relaxing ride on the PeopleMover. It’s a peaceful way to extend the magic without the hassle of waiting in line. Or you can stroll through Adventureland, if you view the fireworks from that side of the park, and soak in even more magic- and maybe even a Dole Whip Float!  I much prefer this laid-back option over waiting in a long line for the monorail!

If that doesn’t sound like your style and you’d rather head straight out, my second recommendation is to watch the fireworks as close to the Main Street U.S.A. train station as possible. This way, you’ll have a quicker exit to the Monorail station afterward. If you’re near the exit and move quickly, typically you’ll actually save time by heading directly to the monorail, rather than taking the walkway to the Contemporary Resort.

I hope that helps. If you have more questions, come on back to planDisney. We love to help!
