Hello, My parents have been FL residents for 20 years. Do i get discounted tickets as the child of Florida residents? Myself, I'm an Illinois resident. Thanks:)

    Hi Alda,

Welcome back to planDisney! I'm happy we've been able to be a resource for you as you've planned your first Walt Disney World vacation. You're going to be in the magic in just a few days, and I know you will make amazing memories with your family.

As you noted, the Walt Disney World resort offers Florida resident discounts on tickets, annual passes and other experiences for those of us who live in the Sunshine State. Those benefits would apply to your parents or anyone who can verify that they are a resident of Florida. Alas, the benefits do not apply to children, grandchildren and other relatives who live outside of the state.

I'm sorry I don't have good news for you about an additional discount, but let me offer a tip I always give to friends who are visiting for the first time: When our girls were the age of your children, in advance of each trip, we gave them a specific amount they could each spend on souvenirs, special treats or other items we had not planned to buy. You can get separate, distinct gift cards for each of them loaded with the set amount.

It's an easy way for them to have control over their choice of treats and for you to monitor spending. Our girls always had a great time figuring out how to get the best bang for their Disney buck.

Wishing you a truly magical first visit, Alda.

    Enjoy,

    Wilma
