One of our ports on the 10 night cruise this July is Tortola and we would like to take a ferry from Tortola to St John. Are there reputable ferry taxis we could find and reserve and is there a direct taxi between the 2 islands? Thank you.

    Welcome aboard planDisney, Eileen!

You are going to love your 10-Night Southern Caribbean cruise! You will visit some of my favorite destinations, including Disney Cruise Line's newest island destination, Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point.

I double-checked to see if any Port Adventures were leaving Tortola headed to St. John, but as I'm sure you have confirmed, there are none. Having spent lots of time on St. John, USVI, I can tell you that it is a lovely little island and I understand why you would want to visit. To my knowledge, a ferry is available between Cruz Bay, St. John and West End, Tortola. But, on my last visit, the ferry also served St. Thomas, USVI, so one segment of your trip will not be direct. I will caution you that their schedule varies and is usually limited and can change without much notice. The company is Inter-Island Boat Services. There are private charter taxis you could find online, but make sure to check the reviews.

Keep in mind that every member of your party will need a passport because you will need to clear customs on both ends of your trip. I've traveled by private boat between St. John and the BVI and going through customs is a longer process than you might expect. So, while it seems like it should be a quick and easy trip, I would not recommend making the trek because of all the unknowns that could easily ruin your day and even delay your arrival back to the ship. You don't want to find yourself missing the ship's "all aboard!"

I have other suggestions for you, Eileen, that I think would be a more relaxing use of your day and include some amazing sites. If you haven't visited The Baths on a neighboring BVI island, I highly recommend adding it to your list. Disney Cruise Line offers two Port Adventures exploring this lovely site. Another great way to spend the day on a neighboring BVI island is to sign up for one of the Jost Van Dyke beach days. You could enjoy one of the famous cocktails that originated on the island and not worry about a thing.

I hope this helps you plan your day, Eileen. Thanks for sailing by with your question and let us know if we can offer other tips!

    Wishing you many magical memories,
    Shannon
