Hiya, friend! So glad to see you again at planDisney. Your August trip to
Walt Disney World Resort is coming up quickly, and it's always a good idea to have all of your (Daisy) ducks in a row so your vacation is smooth sailing. I'll be happy to share some information about accessibility in the parks (spoiler alert - it's excellent!), so let's get right to it!
As a nurse by trade, I am always impressed by Disney's commitment to ensuring that ALL Guests can experience the magic during their stay. A few years ago, I had the opportunity to see firsthand how accommodations work for Guests in wheelchairs when one of my daughters had an injury shortly before our vacation, and she didn't miss out on anything!
I recommend taking a look at the
Disney website for Guests with Mobility Needs to get a sense of what's available. Accommodations include dedicated loading and unloading areas for individuals with mobility needs, as well as ride vehicles that allow Guests to stay in their wheelchair for the duration of the ride. You'll also find a comprehensive list of which attractions require transfer to a ride vehicle, as well as the few that require Guests to be fully ambulatory.
Before your arrival next month, it's a good idea to decide whether you want to rent a wheelchair for your trip. You can
rent wheelchairs in any of the theme parks, the water parks, or
Disney Springs by the day, or purchase a "length of stay" rental that is transferrable between the theme parks for the duration of your trip (these cannot be taken out of the parks). Rentals are first-come, first-served, so I recommend securing a wheelchair early if you wish to snag one in the parks.
You can also rent a wheelchair from ScooterBug, a company based in the Orlando area, for delivery directly to your Disney
Resort Hotel. As a a Disney Featured Provider, they're able to drop equipment off with Bell Services and pick it up when you depart, which makes it really convenient for Guests. We used them for my daughter's wheelchair and it was super easy.
I hope this information is helpful for your planning purposes, my friend! Thanks so much for coming back to see us at planDisney, and please don't hesitate to send any other questions our way as your magical vacation approaches.
See Ya Real Soon!
Susan
