Do you need a reservation for building a droid at droid depot?

Hello there, Robyn, and welcome to planDisney! As the proud owner of a droid myself, I completely understand the excitement of having a trusty mechanical companion by your side. Just be sure yours doesn’t suddenly download any rebellious programming updates while you’re not looking.

As of March 17, 2025, reservations are no longer required to build a droid at Droid Depot. Instead, walk-ups are now welcome, giving you a bit more flexibility when planning your time in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. Simply make your way to Droid Depot when you’re ready to begin assembling your custom astromech. While reservations are no longer needed, all other guidelines still apply. The building area is limited to the builder and up to two additional Guests, and at least one person in the group must be age 14 or older. For the most up-to-date details or any policy changes, the Droid Depot page on the Disneyland website is always a helpful resource.

Once you’re ready to customize your new companion, don’t forget to check out the optional add-ons available for purchase. Personality chips are a particularly fun upgrade, as they align your droid with a specific faction in the galaxy, such as the Resistance, the First Order, or the ever-unpredictable Scoundrels. These chips influence how your droid reacts to its surroundings in Black Spire Outpost, so be sure to keep it powered on as you explore. You never know which ships, locations, or characters might trigger a response.

While you’re adventuring through Batuu with your droid in tow, you may also want to test your skills as a bounty hunter using the Batuu Bounty Hunters experience with MagicBand+. This free-to-play activity, accessed through the Play Disney Parks app, sends you on a mission across Black Spire Outpost as you track down targets hidden throughout the land. It’s an immersive and interactive way to explore Galaxy’s Edge, especially if you enjoy puzzles and storytelling layered into your park day. A Q-Tip from my own experience: keep an eye out for subtle symbols and markings around the Outpost. They often point the way toward your next target.

With so much happening in the galaxy far, far away, Robyn, it’s an incredible time to be a Star Wars fan. If you have any other questions while planning your visit, feel free to return and visit us again here at planDisney.

May the Force be with you!
