Hi Amanda. Thanks for reaching out to us here at planDisney.
While we never want to think about not being able to go on a vacation we have been looking forward to, it's a sad reality that sometimes things come up and we have to cancel. Cancelation policies are different depending on where you booked and what type of product(s) you purchased. Firstly, if you purchased any part of your vacation from a third party, you'd need to reach out to that company to determine how you might go about canceling and what the policies and charges might be.
If you purchased a
vacation package (
Disney Resorts Collection Hotel and theme park tickets together) through the
Walt Disney World Resort website, you can usually cancel your vacation 30 days or more before your arrival date and receive your deposit back. If you cancel between 2 days and 29 days before your arrival date, you are usually able to get anything you paid for your vacation back minus the initial deposit. And if you cancel within one day or less of your arrival date, the full price of the package is non-refundable. You'll want to consult the
Terms & Conditions page to determine what exactly you'd be entitled to. Of course, you can always
call the resort and speak to a friendly Cast Member if you need more information.
If you purchased
theme park tickets only, you would not be entitled to a refund, but you should be able to apply the amount you paid for the tickets to a future ticket purchase. Just note that no refunds are given if the new dates of your tickets are less expensive and you'd be responsible for the difference in price if the new dates are more expensive. And finally, if you purchased a room-only reservation, you can usually cancel 5 or more days before your arrival date to avoid any charges.
You are often able to cancel your package or room-only reservation through your
My Disney Experience account. I prefer to do this on a personal computer. Simply log into your account and click on the "My Plans" option under the My Disney Experience menu. Under "My Plans, Reservations and Tickets," you should be able to see your reservation listed. If you see a "Cancel Reservation" button, you can click it and follow the prompts. Sometimes it's not there and you'll have to call the resort to cancel. But don't worry, Cast Members always bring a smile to my face when I talk to them and I'm sure that'll be the case for you too!
Amanda, I hope that everything works out for you and that if you have to cancel, you're able to find your way back to the Most Magical Place on Earth soon!
Please reach out if you have any other questions.
Today is a good day to try,
Matt
