Menu options at Flame Tree Barbecue that don’t contain high fructose corn syrup which is used as a sweetener in many BBQ sauces and monosodium glutamate (MSG). I want to use mobile ordering to maximize our day. Anyone know of safe menu items for me?

    Welcome to planDisney, Christy!

It’s always a pleasure to help a fellow Pennsylvanian, especially when it comes to one of my favorite topics, which is delicious (and safe!) eats at Walt Disney World. I know many guests love to indulge while on vacation, but I completely understand wanting to stick with foods that make you feel your best. After all, the better you feel, the more energy you’ll have to soak up every magical moment with Mickey and friends!

You’ve got a great plan with mobile ordering at Flame Tree Barbecue, and I did a little digging to help you find options that avoid high fructose corn syrup and MSG. Their signature barbecue sauce is made with molasses and brown sugar as sweeteners, at least according to a copycat recipe from the D23 website. However, since recipes can change, I always recommend checking at the restaurant when you arrive. Most quick-service locations have an ingredient binder at the counter, and Cast Members are always happy to help with dietary concerns.

For safer options, the Half Chicken entrée is a solid choice, as it’s simply marinated rather than slathered in sauce. If you’re looking for something even simpler, the kids’ Baked Chicken Drumstick and kids’ Pulled Pork come without sauce, making them great alternatives. I do wish they still had that refreshing watermelon and feta salad, as it was an all time favorite of mine!

If you’re open to exploring, I highly recommend Satu’li Canteen in Pandora. This spot is a hidden gem for guests looking for fresh, wholesome meals. The Wood-Grilled Chicken Bowl is my go-to; it’s marinated in garlic and olive oil, packed with flavor, and completely customizable. Honestly, you can’t go wrong with anything here! The focus on fresh, high-quality ingredients makes this one of the best quick-service meals at Walt Disney World, especially for those avoiding additives.

I hope this helps you plan a delicious, worry-free dining experience! Wishing you a wildly wonderful adventure at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Let me know if you need anything else—I’m always happy to help!

    Have an amazing trip, Christy!
