Hey there, Matthew! Thanks for stopping by planDisney! Like many Midwesterners, I’m a bit of a weather buff, so I’m thrilled to help with your meteorological query.
It’s difficult to predict the weather this far in advance, but we can look at the seasonal averages to get an idea of what it will be like to visit central Florida in August. According to historical weather data, the average high temperatures are often in the low 90s, with the lows in the mid-70s (degrees in Fahrenheit), and high humidity. It’s not uncommon for a quick-moving rain shower to pass through in the afternoon, which may temporarily pause outdoor attractions. If that happens on your park day, just find an indoor attraction or show and it may be over by the time you exit. And don’t forget to pack a poncho and extra footwear!
As for hurricanes, the Atlantic hurricane season stretches from June to November according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. With its inland location, Walt Disney World has only been directly impacted by a hurricane a handful of times in its more than 50 years of operation, but I certainly understand being vigilant. Based on
Walt Disney World’s hurricane policy page, if a hurricane warning is issued by the National Hurricane Center for the Orlando area within 7 days of your scheduled arrival, you can reschedule or cancel your vacation package without any cancellation or change fees. If you have specific questions regarding Walt Disney World’s hurricane policies, I’d suggest calling a friendly Cast Member on
the non-reservations questions line.
At the time of this writing, vacation packages for 2026 aren’t available for booking quite yet, but just like the weather, we can look at past trends to glean some information. In recent years, vacation packages have become available in early to mid-summer, but I know that last year guests were able to make reservations for 2025 starting in February 2024. So news about 2026 vacation packages may be right around the corner. I would suggest regularly checking the
Disney Parks Blog and Walt Disney World website for updates
I hope this info helps with your vacation planning, Matthew. You can always pop back to planDisney if you have any other questions. We’re here to help!
Magical travels!
Matt
