Can items or meals charged to a resort room via MagicBand be paid in cash at the end of your stay, or is it automatically charged to the card on file?

    Quanna,

Thanks for asking your question to planDisney!

Can purchases you make with your MagicBand+ band be paid for with cash? Well, yes, you can, but it takes some planning. What you can do is apply cash to your room account in advance of making those purchases, but you cannot simply wait to do it at the end of your visit.

As you likely know, Disney has you put a credit card down on your room bill when you arrive, or when you used the Online Check-In feature. When your spending hits a certain limit, Disney automatically charges that amount to your credit card. The amount in question changes by resort, and over time, so you really must ask the front desk of your resort what that figure is when you check in. So, if you want to use cash to pay for things, it is best to apply the cash ahead of time to your account, and as you spend, those charges will be covered by that cash-based surplus you set up.

What I like to do is visit the front desk periodically to apply more cash or gift card balance to my Disney resort hotel account. These funds can go to pay for room charges, as well as when you charge food or other purchases to your MagicBand. With that balance already put onto your hotel account, they deduct those costs from your credit balance rather than bill the credit card you have on file for your room.

    BONUS TIP #1
One very important note. I do not recommend that you put all your cash over to your resort hotel account at the start of the trip. Why? Well, Disney cannot refund any of that transfer to you, so if you put $100 of cash onto your resort balance and only spend $90 of that, you lose the $10 balance.

    BONUS TIP #2
Remember that you can always check your balance from your My Disney Experience App!

    BONUS TIP #3
When you check in, ask what the account threshold amount is so that you know when they would charge your credit card. This will tell you when their system automatically charges your credit card on file for a specific amount. With this information you can get an idea of when you may want to go put more cash onto your hotel room account.
