Welcome to planDisney, Megan! I hope that your upcoming visit goes off without a hitch, but I understand the desire to fully understand your travel insurance policy so you know what is covered in the event of a cancellation or interruption. I'd be glad to assist you in finding the proper documentation and provide you with some additional information about what to do with your reservation if some guests are unable to travel.
The
Travel Insurance page on the Walt Disney World website is a great place to start if you're looking for the official verbiage of your policy. There is information about how to add a policy to your trip, or you can click the link to find the terms and coverage which vary by state. I see you are writing from Ohio, so I chose that state on the drop-down list on the insurance provider's page. A PDF document automatically opened once I selected the state, and I was able to read through the information about what is covered if your trip needs to be canceled or is interrupted for some reason.
If it appears that some members of your party will be unable to travel as the trip draws nearer, you can
modify your reservation online rather than canceling entirely. Navigate to your hotel reservation under "My Plans and Tickets" and look for the "Modify" button. If for some reason you are unable to perform this function using the website or would prefer to speak with a person, there are friendly
Cast Members standing by to take your call on the Hotel Reservations line. They will be able to assist you and get your reservation set up exactly how you need it. Please be advised that a change fee may apply.
I hope everyone is able to travel and make treasured memories together, Megan! Whether you're taking on the challenge of the Kitchen Sink at
Beaches & Cream or getting cozy on Main Street, U.S.A. for a showing of
Happily Ever After, I am wishing you a fantastic visit to Walt Disney World.
Stay magical,
Scott
