Welcome to planDisney, Kate! Rope drop can be one of the best times to experience attractions with shorter waits, so finding a comfortable way for your husband to start the day is important. I am happy to help you plan out your morning to be more comfortable.
My first suggestion to help manage the entrance gate line would be to plan around the opening times. While the park opens for rope drop at 8:00 a.m. on most days, guests are typically allowed to enter
Main Street, U.S.A. about 30 minutes prior. (This allows guests to begin queuing up for the lands they would like to begin exploring.) I would suggest not arriving at the front gates of the park until around 7:30 a.m. and then choosing the shortest line possible. With a bit of luck, it can be a relatively short wait as the lines have already begun moving.
If you are comfortable entering the park a bit after rope drop, you could alternatively use the
Disneyland Monorail to enter the park. The Monorail entrance is located in the
Downtown Disney District and typically opens at 8:00 a.m. The line to use the Monorail is often much shorter than the main entrance gate, and the loading area provides more room to move around if standing in one place is uncomfortable. If you choose this option, consider arriving in Downtown Disney a little before the Monorail begins loading so you can enjoy a more relaxed start to your morning while still entering Disneyland early in the day. As a bonus, you can scratch one attraction off your list right at the beginning of your visit!
Finally, I should let you know that the first hour or two of the day typically offers some of the shortest attraction wait times. While many guests focus on attractions with naturally shorter waits during that time,
Lightning Lane return times remain available throughout the morning. Even if you enter the park shortly after opening, you should still have opportunities to secure return times for many popular attractions later in the day. I would recommend using those initial hours to experience some of the more popular attractions before the crowds arrive.
One additional tip: if your husband needs a place to sit and recharge after entering the park, the seating areas along Main Street, U.S.A. and around the hub near Sleeping Beauty Castle can be great places to take a short break before heading to your first attraction.
Kate, I hope these suggestions help you and your husband begin your Disneyland day comfortably and confidently. May your morning be smooth, your waits be short, and your Disneyland adventure be filled with wonderful memories!
