I am hoping to be able to go to Disney world next year and I saw on someone’s instagram post that I can make a candle at one of the parks. I was wondering, so I don’t have to check a bag when I go home, how much it would cost to ship to the west coast?

    Welcome to planDisney, Ally!

Thank you for being our guest, I’ll be more than happy to help you get that candle back home. I made two candles this summer myself, so you’ve come to the right spot.

The candle-making location you are talking about is Basin. There are two locations to do this, Disney Springs and Basin White at the Grand Floridian. I ended up visiting the Basin White at Grand Floridian and made mine there. It was completely unplanned! We rode the Monorail and stopped at the Grand Floridian after leaving ‘Ohana for breakfast and saw Basin White so we just decided to browse the store. Once in there, my daughter spotted the adorable candle-making section so she and I made our candles.

The tip to making the candle is to “pack it down tight” so that the scent beads don’t shift and your design can withstand traveling. I also found that traveling home with our candles was fairly simple. I ended up wrapping them both in my clothes and layered them under more clothes in my suitcase. They both arrived safely and unshaken. So packing them yourself is also another option. I like to keep what I can with me, but Disney does a great job with shipping things home as well.

I recommend asking the store if they can ship it home for you from there, if not, once you head back to your Disney Resort, stop at the front desk. A Cast Member at the front desk will be more than happy to prepare all of your souvenirs for shipment home. The cost ranges depending on how much you’ll be mailing home. I’ve found that the cost isn’t much different than your traditional home mailing location. Keep in mind it will take anywhere from 1-2 weeks to arrive back home. It is kind of nice waiting for your items though. Once they arrive it is exciting! It's the magical mail that usually helps me get out of the post-Disney blues. I don’t know about you but returning home after a Disney trip is so hard! All I crave is the adrenaline rush of a ride and a DOLE Whip before noon. How is that not part of normal life?

Ally, I hope this helps answer your question. Please be sure to visit us again if you have any more questions or need any planning tips or recommendations. We are all here and so happy to flood your brain with all things Disney.

    See ya real soon,
