Hiya, Rebecca! Only a few more sleeps until
Walt Disney World Resort! It is so hard to rest when Cinderella Castle is on the horizon. You have so much to look forward to, and I am glad you stopped by planDisney on your way to the magic.
I will confess that I have not tried adopting the Paleo lifestyle, but I am very mindful of what I eat and try - even on vacation - to fuel up with vegetables and lean proteins. I'll do my best to share my favorites and recommendations.
Let's start with
Magic Kingdom Park. One of my absolute favorite quick-serve restaurants is
Columbia Harbour House. People rave about the Lobster Roll, but I come here for the Maple-Glazed Salmon. You could order this without the rice. The maple glaze may have some sugar, but I find it to be a true glaze, not a syrup overpowering the salmon. Paired with the green beans, it feels more like a full-service restaurant and a choice I can feel good about.
If you want table service,
The Plaza Restaurant has several delicious salads, and the atmosphere is quaint and light.
Liberty Tree Tavern is another family favorite. I love the green beans. (Picking up a theme?) You might have them hold things like the mashed potatoes and macaroni and cheese, but this is all-you-care-to-enjoy served family style, so your server could craft your platter with meats and vegetables.
For snacks,
Liberty Square Market is a wonderful place to pick up fresh fruit. I have also heard Turkey Legs are a park favorite. I've not tried one, but they must be delicious, given the number of people I see with them.
Now, let's hoof it over to
Disney's Animal Kingdom Theme Park.
Flame Tree Barbeque has a Ribs, Chicken and Pulled Pork sampler, giving you many options on one plate. There are several other meat options, like the 1/2 Chicken. The vegetable here is coleslaw, so this may be a meat-only dining experience for you. But there are lots of tasty choices!
Tusker House is one of my husband's favorite character dining experiences. It's a buffet and could work well. The food has an African-inspired flair. From appetizers to entrees,
Yak & Yeti has a lot of tempting options. I love the Lettuce Cups. They are listed as sharable, but you don't have to. You might have to ask your server about accommodations for a few entree choices, but you have several options for seafood, chicken, beef, and duck (don't tell Donald) at Yak & Yeti.
There are a few snack options, but I also pack my own, like nuts. They travel well and are a satisfying quick fix when logging all those steps!
Rebecca, I hope this helps. I have been to Walt Disney World with family and friends who have various dietary needs and requests. All have yet to leave the vacation hungry. At any table-service restaurant, I have found the Cast Members will do their best to find something that works for everyone.
Bon Appetit!
